MURRAY TAKES ON BOGOMOLOV

Andy Murray has defeated Alex Bogomolov Junior of Russia in the opening round of the US Open. Murray played some exquisite shots in the match and entered the second round with a thumping victory. The British superstar won the match in the straight sets by 6-2, 6-4, 6-1. It took Murray 2 hours and 15 minutes to knock Bogomolov out of the competition. This was the fourth encounter between these two players and Murray defeated Bogomolov for the third time.

Murray didn’t have a good start to the match. The Russian player surprised him by breaking his service in the very first game of the first set. But, Murray made an immediate comeback and got a breakthrough in the second game to equalise the score. Bogomolov gave Murray another blow in the third game and got ahead in the set again. But, after that, Murray thrashed Bogomolov and ran away with the set by winning the last four games consecutively. In the second set, Bogomolov was off to a fantastic start. He broke Murray’s service in the first game and held his service in the next game to make the score 2-0. The next four games went with the serve and Bogomolov was ahead by 4-2 at the end of the 6th game. It seemed that the Russian player was on his way to win the set.  But, Murray didn’t let that happen. He broke Bogomolov’s service in the 8th and the 10th game and sealed the set by winning four back-to-back games.

In the third set, Murray was at his very best. He got seven breakpoints in the third set and he capitalized on three of them to wrap up the match. In the second round, Murray will play against Ivan Dodig of Croatia.

MURRAY WINS GOLD

Andy Murray has won the gold medal in the men’s tennis singles tournament of London Olympics. Murray defeated the world no. 1 Roger Federer in the final match. The British player won the match in the straight sets by 6-2, 6-1, 6-4. Federer had defeated Murray in the Wimbledon final a few days ago. Murray took his revenge and broke the dream of Roger Federer to win the Olympic singles gold medal.

Both the players held their service in the first four games of the first set and the scores were leveled at 2-2. But, Murray broke Federer’s service twice after that and won the next four games consecutively to win the first set by 6-2. In the second set, Murray played even more aggressively. He got breakthroughs in the second and the fourth game and won the first five games of the second set in a row to take a lead of 5-0. Federer held his service in the sixth game, but, that didn’t matter and Murray won the second set by 6-1. In the third and final set, Federer played a bit better than the previous two. But, Murray’s versatile game proved to be too much for him. The British superstar broke Federer’s service in the fifth game and then kept the lead till the end to win the third set by 6-4.

Murray was over the moon after winning the gold medal. In the post match press conference, he said that it is the happiest day of his life. As per Murray, he was nervous before the Wimbledon final, but, before this match, he was confident and went into the match without any nervousness. Murray said that nothing can give more satisfaction than winning an Olympic gold medal for your country.

BRITS SUFFER FINAL HEARTACHE

The British pair of Laura Robson and Andy Murray has been defeated in the final of the tennis mixed doubles competition of the London Olympics by the Belarusian pair of Max Mirnyi and Victoria Azarenka. The match was pretty close and could have gone either way. But, the Belarusian pair played well during the key moments of the game and won the match by 2-6, 6-3, 10-8. The match got finished in 1 hour and 22 minutes.

The British pair started in an aggressive mood and broke the service of the Belarusian pair in the first and the third game of the opening set. The British pair won the first four games consecutively to take a lead of 4-0. However, the Belarusian pair came back and held their service in the fifth and the seventh game, but, that was not enough. Robson and Murray won the first set easily by 6-2. Read more »

MURRAY THROUGH IN RODGERS CUP

Andy Murray has defeated Flavio Cipolla of Italy in the second round of the Rogers Cup. Murray won the match easily and smashed his opponent in the straight sets by 6-1, 6-3. Murray has been in fine form in the last few months. He won the gold medal in the men’s tennis singles competition of the London Olympics by defeating Roger Federer in the final a few days ago. Murray has been given the second seed in the competition. He took just 82 minutes to cruise to the third round.

The British superstar was in a furious mood right from the beginning of the match. The Italian player was able to win only one game in the first set. Murray got two breakthroughs (in the second game and in the sixth game) in the first set and won the first set without having any problem.
