MURRAY SMASHES PAST RAONIC

The no. 3 male tennis player in the world, Andy Murray, has been defeated by Milos Raonic of Canada in the semi final of the Rakuten Japan Open at Tokyo. Raonic won the match by 6-3, 6-7(5), 7-6(4).

Murray had been in great form since the last few months. He recently won the US Open which was his first Grand Slam title. He was expected to go past Raonic easily. But, the Canadian player pulled off a great upset.  It was a thrilling encounter. Two out of the three sets went into the tie breaker. This was the third match between these two players and Raonic has won two of them.

In the post match interview, Murray said, “It was a disappointing day for me. I wasn’t able to start the match well and that proved to be costly. Raonic served brilliantly throughout the match and he was slightly better than me today.”

On the other hand, Raonic was ecstatic after defeating one of the best players in the world. The Canadian player said, “I have been playing aggressively since the start of the tournament and I did the same today. I came out there and attacked from the very beginning. I made some mistakes in the tie breaker of the second set, but, I made up for it in the third set.

“It was a great match and could have gone either way. Luckily, it went my way. Now, I am looking forward to the final.”

When asked about Nishikori who is going to be his opponent in the final match, Raonic said, “Nishikori has also been in good form of late and the final match is going to be an interesting one. Hopefully, I would be able to continue the winning streak.”
