MURRAY WINS

Andy Murray has defeated Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in a match of the Brisbane International Tennis tournament on Friday. Murray won the match in the straight sets by 6-4, 7-6(3). With this win, Murray has reached the semi finals of this event.

Murray who has been given the top seed in this event was quite clinical in his effort in the match against Istomin and he completely outsmarted his opponent. It took him 1 hour and 37 minutes to win the match.

Both the players made a pretty good start to the match and the first 8 games of the opening set went with the serve. The scores were levelled at 4-4 till that time. Murray got a breakpoint in the ninth game and he didn’t waste that. He gave Istomin the first blow and got ahead by 5-4. He only had to hold his service in the 10th game to seal the first set and he did exactly that.

But, in the second set, Murray had to work very hard for his points. Neither of the two players managed to sneak a breakthrough in the first 12 games of the second set and the set went into the tie breaker. In the tie breaker, Murray kept his cool and won the tie breaker to move into the next round.

In the post match interview, Murray said, “It was a tight game. Istomin served really well for most part of the match. But, in the tie breaker, he made a few mistakes which allowed me to walk away with a win.”

On the other hand, Istomin said, “Murray is a great player and it’s not easy to defeat him if he is playing in top form. I tried hard, but, towards the end, he soaked the pressure really well and won the match.”

In the next match, Murray will take on Kei Nishikori of Japan.

FEDERER HAILS MRRAY

The no. 2 player in the world, Roger Federer, has hailed the performance of Andy Murray in this season. Federer has said that Andy Murray is very close to becoming no. 1 and once he will get there, he will remain there for a while.

The British Superstar, Andy Murray, performed consistently throughout the season, but, his performance in the last couple of events of the season was a little below his standard. In the BNP Paribas Masters, he was defeated in the third round by the Polish player Jerzy Janowicz. Then, in the final event of the season, ATP World tour finals, Murray had to toil hard to make his way into the final four.

In his opening Round Robin match in the World Tour finals, Murray got better of the Czech player, Tomas Berdych, but, in his next match, he was defeated by the current no. 1 player in the world, Novak Djokovic. Because of that it became very difficult for him to qualify for the semis. He had to win his final Round Robin match to continue his campaign in the tournament. The Olympic Gold medalist did that. He defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in his third match of the tournament and managed to qualify for the semis.

In the semi final, he took on the Wimbledon champion Roger Federer who thrashed him in the straight sets and knocked him out of the tournament. Murray finished the season as the no. 3 player in the world.

When Federer was asked about Murray, he said, “I think Murray has been the most consistent player in this season. He has improved his game a lot and he is not too far away from becoming the no. 1 in the world and I am sure, once he reaches there, it will be hard to displace him from there.”

The Canadian player said, “I have been playing aggressively since the start of the tournament and I did the same today. I came out there and attacked from the very beginning.
